About Gentle Yoga

(Thurs @ 7:15-8:15pm)

Gentle yoga is designed to relax, restore, and rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit. This makes it a perfect class for beginners, experienced yogis, and anyone needing a pause from an everyday busy life.

Gentle, or Restorative Yoga, is the practice of holding positions for longer than in conventional yoga. By doing so, this yoga style activates the parasympathetic nervous system which controls the body’s ability to relax, which carries tremendous impact when under stress. Restorative yoga focuses on “restoring” harmony back to the parasympathetic nervous system which then helps the body relax so the brain and body can recharge and heal.

This class features six to eight poses (typically laying down) that are gentle and for all levels of practitioner. We’ll be using props (blankets, blocks, pillows) to allow the body to feel fully supported to relax even deeper into poses designed to release muscle tension through gentle stretching, while quieting the busy mind, and calming the breath.

About Vinyasa Flow Yoga I

(Mon @ 6-7pm)

Unlike Hatha Yoga, which focuses one pose at a time, often with rest in between, Vinyasa Flow Yoga is more active in nature and characterized by postures strung together in a “flow” from one to another, seamlessly, using a “breath-synchronized” practice. The breath acts as an anchor as you move from one pose to the next. Vinyasa practice generates heat and can add a cardiovascular component not always present in other forms of practice.

At its core, Vinyasa is about creating harmony, balance and fluidity. The term Vinyasa means “to place in a special way,” or more specifically, during this mindful practice one is not mindlessly throwing their body around (or being detached) but bringing purpose and focus to each movement, in each moment, with each breath.

Research shows that vinyasa yoga helps build and maintain strong bones, muscles and connective tissue; build necessary strength in the core and upper body which enhances posture; helps maintain a higher metabolism; improves heart health; lowers blood sugar and cholesterol levels; helps reduce stress and anxiety; and can help improve sleep.
